YOUTH
Category 1 : 3 years old - Kindergarten
Category 2 : 1st grade and up

LEVEL TWO - For children who have not learned to swim

Skills taught include the back and stomach floats, propulsion on the back, with the final objective being the front crawl with face in the water.

Skills taught include the following:
Enter water by jumping in
Submerge head/Bob/Pick up Objects Underwater
Back glide, 2 body lengths
Roll from Front/Back
Tread Water
Combine arm and leg action on front for 15 feet
Combine arm and leg action on back for 15 feet
Swim on Side with Support
Front/Back Float (hold on own)

LEVEL THREE - For children who can travel on the surface at least 3 body lengths using front crawl

The individual must have successfully completed Level two (or equivalent) to be enrolled in Level three. The objective is to increase the skill level of the individual by adding to the skills previously learned. Emphasis is on correct breathing techniques, flutter kick, and arm pull of the front crawl, the backstroke, as well as the introduction of the breaststroke.

Skills taught include the following:
Jump into Deep
Bobs with head fully submerged
Back Float 30 sec.
Front and Back Glide 2 body lengths
Perform rotary breathing with body in a horizontal position, 5 times
Tread Water 30sec in deep
Front/Back Crawl 15 yd
Butterfly/Dolphin Kick

PRE-STROKE

The individual must have successfully completed Level three (or equivalent) to be enrolled in Level four. The objective is to provide the student with the opportunity to learn the elements of good swimming. Elementary backstroke, butterfly, and the sidestroke will be introduced.

Skills taught include the following:
Dive into deep end
Swim Underwater 3 body lengths
Float 1 min. in deep water
Tread water for 1 min.
Front Crawl/Back Crawl 25 yd, with breaths
Elementary Backstroke 15yd.
Breaststroke 15 yd

STROKE

The individual must have successfully completed Level four (or equivalent) to be enrolled in Level five. The objective is to emphasize coordination and endurance of the swimming strokes (front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke). Open turns are demonstrated.

Skills taught include the following:
Must be able to swim length of pool with rotary breathing
Must know and be able to swim
Crawl, Back and Breast Stroke
