Kyle Trullinger - Instructor

How long have you been diving?
I learned to dive in 1992 with Midwest Aquatics at Table Rock Lake.

What type of diving activities do you enjoy?
I enjoy any kind of diving that takes me underwater. I enjoy night diving and the aquatic life that normally you won't see during the day.

Where have you been diving?
I have been diving in Kansas and Missouri's local lakes and quarries; New Mexico’s lakes and sink holes; the Pacific off the coast of Oregon; and in Florida in Crystal River and in the gulf.

What was the most challenging skill for you to complete during your open water training?
During my open water course, my most difficult skill was the first buoyancy check. When I jumped in the lake for the first time I felt clausterphobic and began to breathe quickly. Once I realized that I was not at all enclosed, I was fine. In fact, it was the exact opposite; I had the entire lake to play in.

Why did you become a dive instructor?
I was influenced by several of my past instructors and saw the enjoyment and enthusiasm they had while working with the classes. I wanted to be able to pass on the knowledge that I had learned to others so that they too would enjoy a whole new world.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The look on a new diver's face as they experience the open water for the first time, and watching their progression and level of comfort throughout the class.

How do you stay current with the changes in diver education?
I continue to ask questions of other instructors with more experience. I also assist as many different instructors and classes as possible to encounter many different styles and personalities. In addition to this, I read professional and recreational publications and updates.

What courses are you certified to teach?
I am certified to assist all PADI recreational diver courses and the PADI Divemaster course. In addition to that, I am certified to teach the following courses: Discover SCUBA, Discover SCUBA Diving, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Scuba Reviews, Medic and First Aid
