The retired aircraft carrier, USS Oriskany is being relocated to Pensacola, Florida. The 27,100 ton, 888 foot long, Ticonderoga class vessel will be the largest in the world to be sunk as an artificial reef. The massive shipwreck is expected to attract divers from around the world!
The Mighty "O" as she was known, will rest on the ocean floor some 22 miles southeast of Pensacola at a depth of around 200 feet. It is anticipated, however, that her deck and superstructure will rise above the sea floor to shallower depths well within normal recreational scuba limits. We expect to be diving on the site in the spring or early summer of 2005.
